Special #COVID19 Message from the Fon of Ku Village, Mbengwi

Special #COVID19 Message from the Fon of Ku Village, Mbengwi

As all hands are being put on deck to prevent the corona virus disease declared a global pandemic by the WHO from entering Mbengwi, the traditional leader of Ku village in the Meta clan, H.R.H Fon Fonguh Tata has also added his voice to the campaign through a special COVID-19 message addressed not only to his subjects but the entire Meta people.

In a recent one on one with Mbengwi Online, the fon gave his wish in which he said "I pray we avoid having this disease because once it enters our community, the devastating consequences may be uncontrollably wild" He further cautioned against mythicizing the disease and thinking it's a Yaoundé thing that will never reach here yet at least five cases were already reported in the NW region by April 25th 2020. He also explained the transmission modes being through droplets from the mouth after coughing or nose after sneezing and that these droplets live in the air for hours and on objects and surfaces for days. By coming in contact with them, one stands a high chance of being contaminated if the droppings were produced by an infected person.

Talking about prevention methods, the fon said it's by constant washing of hands with soap and running water or disinfecting them with sanitisers. "That is why I donated a wash hand kit to the Mbengwi council and another for my village" the royal authority added. Fon Fonguh Henry expressed satisfaction with the way people have been responding to the hand washing and mask wearing call. He also saluted the efforts of the Mbengwi municipal authorities, the administration and other concerned stakeholders in combatting COVID-19 via provision of these basic prevention tools to the community especially in markets, parks and other public places.

While reiterating the prevention methods, the fon of Ku village instructed that, "People should observe the preventive rules set up by the state and those set up by the WHO to avoid a situation of mass deaths because as for now, there's no perfectly acknowledged cure." He furthered that we must avoid crowded places like markets and if we must be there, then we have to put on a mask. Also, he called for strict observation of social distancing and stoppage of  embracing others.

To buttress this, he told Mbengwi Online that "I may stop things like funeral (cry die) celebration until the pandemic is over. It's not like people should stop dying but that when it happens, they should be buried just by family members and all other traditional rites that should've been performed suspended"

The initiative by the fon of Ku serves like a teaser in a bigger general Meta Anti Covid Response Plan spearheaded by H.R.H Professor Wilfred Mbacham of Funam village, Meta Clan, Mbengwi, himself being an epidemiologist of national and international repute. This has seen Meta sons and daughters from all walks of life at home and abroad raising millions to purchase and donate anti covid-19 kits to all the villages within the clan, following government stipulated procedures. It shall be executed in the days ahead.
