Madam Atienjo Bridget epouse Ija is the new mayor of Andek Council in Ngie Sub Division, Momo Division, North West Region of Cameroon. She was elected into office by councillors on Monday February 8th 2016. It should be recalled that the moyoral position of the Andek Council became vacant since the fo:rmer mayor, Awutia Samuel died last December 14th 2015 barely some months after the last national reorganisation of the ruling CPDM party. It is rumoured that during the campaigns to elect new Section Executive members, late mayor Awutia in one of his campaigns swore that over his dead body would Ubangoh Helly alias U.B Relax defeat him as section president. When the results were released, late mayor Awutia actually lived only for few months and then died
Before her election, Madam Bridget was first deputy mayor and also acted as interim mayor since December 14th. She is a teacher by profession. Three candidates stood for the position. At the end, tfollowslts were as follows:
Madam Atienjo Bridget : 14 votes
Mr. Ajekwa Philip : 8 votes
Dr. Aghari Walters : 2 votes.
Mr. Atam Jerome Ajeh, formerly second deputy mayor now becomes first deputy while Mr. Eborgwe Moses Chenwie, a young man in his late 30s is now second deputy. The exercise was conducted by Cameroon's elections governing body ELECAM under the watchful eyes of Mr. Fouda Nicaise, second assistant S.D.O for Momo, Honourable Enwie Francis, M.P for Momo West, over 15 B.I.R elements and other uniform officers.
A reliable source told us that lots of money exchanged hands before the elections. Reason why after the departure of the officials, some bitter quarrels for reimbursement of money were recorded. Talking to Ubangoh Helly alias U.B Relax, section president for Ngie, he said they in their camp were tricked and dribbled. That before the exercise, they had come to a consensus that Dr. Aghari Walters was going to be mayor. But surprisingly, while in the hall, Madzm Bridget stood out as a candidate for the position and Mr. Ajekwa Philip. It is reported that Madam Bridget was Hon. Enwie Francis' candidate while Dr. Aghari Walters was Ubangoh Helly's candidate. The trick played by the Enwie camp to surpass their opponents remains a secret. But the call from both victors and vanquished has been for unity and rallying behind those in front now for it's their time.
On the other hand as the CPDM run council was busy electing a new mayor, Councillor Fokam Ebenezer of the Mbengwi Council who doubles as Momo Divisional Coordinator of the S.D.F was also chairing a meeting at Heavens, a popular public gathering spot in Andek. He led a delegation of some party officials drawn from Batibo, Widikum and Mbengwi to Andek that same day to reorganise the Ngie Electoral District. Surprisingly, the Mbengwi District Chairperson, Hon. Edna Eni Mbah was part of the delegation. Whether a coincidence or planned act remains a dilemma.
