Sunday night, 6th September 2026, daily life and economic activities are going on unperturbed in Mbengwi. While some had retired home, others were still out enjoying nightlife.
Mbacham Fritz and Nkambi Divine are two friends, business partners. They were sharing a drink at their building material store at Mbon park when armed men appeared from nowhere, forced them to mount a bike and as they were being ridden away, a friend of theirs, Muki Abraham stepped in to thwart the move.
Provoked, the kidnappers fired shots in the air to warn anyone that may want to jeopardize their move that they mean business. These shots sent fear across and all around took to their heels. They were taken towards Njembeng and around the church junction, their bike got bad.

Again they fired shots in the air and seized a bike from a rider they met and continued their journey with it through Mile 20, Zem, Njinibi, Nyen towards Kob. While in captivity, they demanded their hostages for money. By 4am, they rode them back to Nyen where they were freed and asked to trek back home which they did and got reunited with their families.
They later reported themselves at the gendarmerie brigade after being released from captivity to give their statements with regards to the ordeal they went through in the hands of the kidnappers. At first there was panic especially within the Christian folk of P.C Njembeng where the duo do fellowship but when news later circulated that they've been released, all heaved a sigh a relief, thanking God for mercy as they were neither killed nor harmed.
A source disclosed to us in prelude to the attack that "3 strange looking guys came to my store around 8:30pm but left immediately they saw military men who came to buy bulbs." Another source hinted us that information had circulated that a group of armed boys appeared in Bessi Tibatoh around Obama Street in broad day light and did an illegal control of oncoming vehicles and bikes.
It should be recalled that on August 14 a lady by name Atumo Hendretta residing below Apostolic Church, Mile 18 Mbengwi also caught a stray bullet on her breast and right elbow. Armed men said to be the very gang that committed the latest act had come into her quarter and kidnapped Affah Polycarp, a feed vendor. As they were taking him away, he jumped off the bike and took to his heels.
This prompted the kidnappers to fire targeted shots to gun him down but missed him and it was rather this lady that caught the bullets. She was attended to at medical facility in Mbengwi, later transferred to Bamenda but is back home simply going for wound dressing from time to time.
This recent threat to security in Mbengwi jeopardizes the multiple efforts that have continually been put in place to effectuate effective school resumption across the subdivision. The Divisional Officer for Mbengwi, Ngidah Lawrence Che has insisted all teachers especially those posted to remote schools must resume duty this academic year. With these kidnappings, those concerned may habe to chose between their safety and their salary.
Worthy of note is the fact that those who are first of all reluctant to go teach find the least opportunity as such to capitalise on yet in reality these are isolated cases in a general atmosphere of serenity. Such will make an elephant out of an anthill when in reality, the very places they claim are not sage have life booming there.
