MBEDECA Pulls Biggest Crowd Ever in Mbemi Since Advent of Anglophone Crisis

For the first time in over seven years since the advent of the Anglophone Crisis, the  Mbemi community hall couldn't contain the population that turned out to attend the Annual General Meeting of Mbemi Development and Cultural  Association, MBEDECA that took place on Saturday 19 April 2025. Such A.G.Ms within the past were held out of the village due to insecurity back home but this 2025, it was resolved that the meeting must hold back in the village.

The three-day event started with a national EXCO meeting on Thursday, delegates meeting on Friday together with youth meeting that had football plus election and then the A.G.M on Saturday which started with a cross country race, inauguration of a bridge and culvert in the village, then the meeting proper. At the inauguration of the Keutah bridge constructed by the Mbengwi Council linking Mbemi to Njindom, the Fon of Mbemi, H.R.H Mbabit Tangwan poured blessings from his royal cup on Ndangsa Kennedy Akam, Mayor of the Mbengwi Council and Hon. Injoh Foo Ngang Prodencia, M.P for Mbengwi encouraging them to continue addressing the development concerns of the people.

Ndangsa Kennedy Akam after cutting the ribbon explained that the council always gives priority to bridges that link two community and so they're handing it over to the population of Mbemi and Njindom to make proper use of it as it'll help them have easy access to their neighbours and farms. "We have other projects in our projects banks which are in the pipeline for the people of Mbemi but I'll not let the cat out of the bag for now" he added. He ended by beckoning on the beneficiary population to maintain the bridge for sustainability mostly by opening up gutters so that run offs don't settle on the bridge and pledged to still intervene in grading the road from the bridge into the two villages.

The A.G.M in the Mbemi community hall was characterised by speeches, installation of newly elected exco members, branch reports, financial reports and donations. Ayong Primus is one the elites of Mbemi. He told us "We've been having this type of activity but not in this number. The population here is like we are hosting MECUDA but it's a normal Mbemi development association meeting. We've come back powerfully with that zeal of having the village at heart."

The Member of Parliament on her part being a daughter of Mbemi told us that "Today is a great day for me as their representative to be in touch with my people directly. I've taken time to educate them on the importance of getting their names into the electoral register and given them strategies for their economic empowerment plus reminding them of some of the projects they've benefited through my interventions most especially the upgrading of electricity in the village to a 3-phase transformer."

Mbemi youths during the meeting used the opportunity to present a laptop and printer they bought to foster documentation services in the village and easy access to I.C.T by most especially pupils and students in the village. There was also agro-pastoral, arts and craft exhibitions at the end of which exhibitors were awarded prizes.

Several reasons accounted for the big success of the MBEDECA 2025 A.G.M. According to its national president, Anjeh William some included the many years spent apart between parents and their children, relatives and family members, friends and loved ones without seeing each other plus the mobilisation that was done in the build up to the event especially as it was to be an elective general assembly meeting for the youths and women's wings.

He however regretted that on the other hand, there are still some MBEDECA branches nationwide and beyond that aren't fairing well. Despite this, he still went ahead to encourage all Mbemi sons and daughters to belong to the association wherever they are without which they shall not be recognised in the village especially when in trouble. Lastly, the national president disclosed that the major project  association has for this year is the renovation of the Mbemi palace and hall.

H.R.H Mbabit Teghen, Fon of Mbemi

At the end, over ten traditional dance groups drawn from the various quarters that make up the village showcased their culture. When Mbengwi Online met with the Fon of Mbemi, H.R.H Mbabit Tangwan , he first began by expressing surprise with the massive turnout of his subjects for the event. "I am calling on sons and daughters of Mbemi to come back home let's see how we can bring back development in our community and project our cherished culture that is fastly dying" he added.

The meeting ended with refreshment and a commitment to make the 2026 edition of the A.G.M more grandiose. The mobilisation is ongoing already with assurance given to all that Mbemi is now safe compared to the past years. Ayong Primus is a manager of one of the branches of Azire Cooperative Credit Union Limited (AziCCUL) in Douala. Hon. Injoh Foo Ngang Prodencia is a politician, M.P for Mbengwi. The Fon himself works with Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) and also a municipal councillor at the Mbengwi.

The trio and other top elites go in and out of the village anyday, anytime without any fear and nothing happens to any of them. Even the mayor of the Mbengwi council also goes to Mbemi at will, this to confirm that Mbemi in particular and the whole of the Meta clan in general is safe, now termed a green zone, not red again.

Breakthrough for the Fon of Wumnembug; New Palace, New Car

The adage "nomatter how long the night may be, the sun will finally rise" is an apt description of the recent breakthroughs that befell H.R.H Mbacham Enoch, the Fon of Wumnembug village in the Tondig zone of the Meta clan, Mbengwi. Like a dream, within the space of no time, the Fon became a proud owner of a new car offered to him by the philanthropic couple Ndang Kenneth and Delphine of Kendely Foundation. Not long thereafter, his subjects through the Wumnembug Cultural and Development Association (WUCUDA) also offered him a newly constructed palace.

Before now, Fon Mbacham used to live under conditions not worth describing considering his personality. His detractors used to make mockery of his situation. Little did anyone know that it was just a matter of time for his breakthrough to come and when luck finally fell on him, on Friday April 11 2025, he was invited by the C.E.O of Kendely Group of Companies and gifted a white Hilux and when he drove pass the streets, some of those who used to talk ill about him became dumbfounded.

New Car from Kendely and New Palace from Subjects to Fon of Wumnembug

From riding a worn-out bike to a brand new white Hilux, from living in a tiny room attached to the Wumnembug hall like a refugee and now to a brand new befitting palace of many rooms, tiled floor, painted walls, electrified, furnished with water system toilets and furniture plus gas kitchen, Fon Mbacham's story can only be likened to that of Baba T in the song titled This Year My Star Must Shine by Nigerian gospel artist Ifeanyichukwu Onyeachonam.

As the story is told in the song, Baba T originally known as Timothy was a married man with 9 children living in a single room and couldn't go to school. Because of poverty he was repeatedly insulted and he resorted to doing mean jobs till one day he fell in the hands of a white boss who later travelled back to China and willed all his assets he had accumulated to Baba T.

The Fon of Wumnembug had been recieving his own  share of insults to an extent based on his carefree lifestyle. He is amongst traditional authorities that have vehemently refused to live to the dictates of how society wants royal authorities to live, some how like prisoners. He has chosen his path of enjoying his life like any other subject nomatter what people say about him, he doesn't really care.

Tibi Olu, WUCUDA National President
H.R.H Mbacham Enoch, Fon of Wumnembug

The authority of a Fon is given by the subjects of his village. If he misbehaves, the whole villagers must bear the shame. A palace is an institution that incarnates a people not an individual. Fons will come and go but the palace structure will remain as an entity of the village. It is for this reason that despite the weaknesses of their Fon, Wumnembug subjects still resolved to uplift his social statues by constructing for him a new befitting palace.

In a one on one with the national president of Wumnembug Cultural and Development Association (WUCUDA), Ni Tibi Olu, he told Mbengwi Online that week-long socioeconomic, cultural and sporting activities took place prior to the A.G.M that was held on Saturday April 19th 2025 in the Wumnembug community hall. It has been for about 7 years that they've not gathered as a family like this in the village because of the Anglophone Crisis reason why the 2025 AGM was so special to the people as many  that have been out all this while had been longing to come back home and finally got the opportunity.

"We hope that by next year, many more good things will come to our village." said the president. The association also has a youth and women wing. Tibi confirmed to us that all are fairing well especially as elections were recently held and a new Executive Council put in place with Fotu Eric heading the youths and Fonjong Rose heading the women.

Council of Elders
General Assembly

The WUCUDA national president admitted that the various branches of the association worldwide are fairing well but for a few challenges. He used the opportunity to encourage all Wumnembug sons and daughters to identify themselves with their kinsmen wherever they find themselves in the world and not only wait until it's red before they see need to admit their identity as Wumnembug children. "Whatever franc they contribute for development will be accounted for because it is our mantra to be transparent" he pledged and ended by encouraging all to do their utmost best towards the growth and wellbeing of Wumnembug.

When we cornered the Fon for a word to his subjects, he said "The bags in which they dipped their hands to chip in something with regards to this project, may more return to the bags so that in future we can realise more projects. I pray that wherever they are, the God of Wumnembug will bless them more and more." Just like president Tibi Olu, H.R.H Mbacham Enoch also added his voice to call on all his subjects who couldn't make it for this year's A.G.M to endeavour not to miss the 2026 edition that promises to be greater in terms of activities, turnout and realisations

Other activities that preceded  the AGM included the handing over of two bridges constructed by the Mbengwi Council to the Wumnembug population, one linking the village to Njindom and the other linking the village to Njinebai in Guneku. Present for the handing over exercise was Mayor Ndangsa Kennedy Akam and his deputy Amadu Kadiri. The municipal authority promised to build many more bridges in Wumnembug, encourage the villagers to do everything possible for the resumption of classes at the government primary school in their community and ended by pledging to provide a new set of dining table and chairs to the new palace.

There was also the blessing of the car that was handed to the Fon by the Kendely Foundation during which the national president of WUCUDA and the royal authority both extended special words of thanks to the philanthropic couple, pleading on God to bless him more so that he in turn continues to reach out to more Meta people. To Tibi Olu, the vehicle will not only be of assistance to the Fon but to the entire village reason why the villagers at their level raised some money to support the fueling of the car.

There was also a free health campaign carried out at the AGM during which consultations and drugs administration took place. Again, there was a beauty contest at the end of which Mbah Raisa Afor emerged winner to become Miss Wumnembug 2025, this after presenting a project on rural urban migration which she plans to curb. Hundreds of Wumnembug sons and daughters came from across the national triangle of Cameroon for the A.G.M that ended with a major resolution that from next year, the annual development levy for each Wumnembug subject will henceforth be 5.000F for both men and women.

40th Anniversary Celebration of the C.P.D.M in Mbengwi, Minister Mbah Acha Saluted

40th Anniversary Celebration of the C.P.D.M in Mbengwi, Minister Mbah Acha Saluted

The Minister Delegate at the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon in Charge of Supreme State Audit, H.E Justice Mbah Acha Rose was in the afternoon of Monday March 24th 2025 given a standing ovation by her party militants in Mbengwi as they gathered in the party's secretariat to celebrate its 40 years of existence.

Conducted by the Mayor of the Mbengwi Council Ndangsa Kennedy Akam, the standing ovation was given to the Minister in appreciation of of her numerous projects executed in Mbengwi such as distribution of medical equipment to hospitals, didactic materials and scholarships to schools, students, farm inputs to common initiative groups, construction of a public toilet just to name these few.

The event was immortalised through the distribution of kilograms of improved maize seeds to militants for planting so as to boost  agriculture in the municipality, a gesture that was appreciated by all based on the long term impact it will have by the time harvesting for sale, consumption would've been done.

Militants and party hierarchy in Mbengwi also used the occasion to count their blessings and name them one by one. Since after the introduction of multipartism in the 90s, Mbengwi had remained a bastion of the opposition party, the Social Democratic Front (S.D.F) until 2013 that the C.P.D.M succeeded to get a lions share of the 25 council seats, sharing the council with two other parties, the S.D.F and Alliance of Progressive Forces (A.P.F)

Mayor Tebe Beatrice née Mbamuku Nduku became the pioneer C.P.D.M Mayor to head the council, assisted by Councillor Chunga Patrick Dara and Councillor Fomumbod Bernard. In 2020, the CPDM finally succeeded to take over the entire council, grabbing all 25 council seats plus the one parliamentary seat and even the North West Regional Assembly seat. Hon. Injoh Foo Ngang Prodencia is the current CPDM Member of Parliament for Momo East Constituency, Mbengwi.

During the Youth Day celebrations in Cameroon last 11 February 2025, hundreds of militants dressed in party fabric marched for the C.P.D.M on the Mbengwi ceremonial grandstand, sending signals across that the party is still fully ready to consolidate its grip of the council, parliament and Regional Assembly. Hundreds of the militants again answered present at the recent ruby jubilee celebration.

Come October this year, Cameroonians will be going to the poles to elect a new president. Militants used the recent anniversary celebration to add their voices to the national calls from other militants across the country for H.E President Paul Biya to still stand as their candidate so they can massively vote only him. They promised that CPDM is rising in Mbengwi to fall no more.

Getting to the top is easy but staying there is difficult. The C.P.D.M understands how slippery Mbengwi is when it comes to politics. Just as the council glided into their hands in 2020, so too can it still slide off next year 2026 when municipal and legislative elections will be held. The opposition in Mbengwi hasn't been sleeping. Recent outings by the S.D.F beginning with 20th May 2024 and the burial of late Hon. P.C Fonso have been glaring examples to show that the party is still very much alive and fully ready for elections.

Many political commentators have been opining that it's not going to be an easy ride for which ever party that will win the council and parliamentary seat next year, that it's likely going to be a neck to neck race.

At Homecoming After Appointment into Central Committee, Minister Mbah Acha Assured Momo Population of Road Development

The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Supreme State Control, Her Excellency Justice Mbah Acha Rose Fomundam was recieved on the Mbengwi ceremonial grandstand on Friday April 25th 2025 with a bouquet of flowers and words of welcome from a little girl after being led there by a motorcade and horses.

She then proceeded to shaking hands with her divisional party officials that had cued up to welcome her and then later went round waving at the crowd that had gathered in their hundreds. A standing ovation was accorded to her as she triumphantly took to her seat in the tribune and the program of the day unfolded with the singing of the national anthem, words of exaltation from a colleague of clergy men that prayed for the minister, the Head of State and the Republic of Cameroon.

A couple of traditional dances entertained all present in prelude to the handing over of a special gift to the minister by traditional authorities of the division. H.R.H Teche Njei of Ngyen-Muwa spoke on behalf of the Momo Fons present. He said "Today is a turning point in the lives of the people of Momo Division" and further described the minister's recent appointment as a square peck in a square hole   especially as she's been empowering Momo sons and daughters plus they the Fons, placing them in income earning positions across the country thereby teaching them how to fish rather than giving them fish to eat.

At the end of his address, Fon Teche offered a royal bowl to the minister on behalf of all Momo Fons, beckoning on her to bring back remains and share to her people back home after eating from the bowl in Yaounde. She was also offered a gong to hit, inviting the Momo people to assemble around her each time she needs their attention. His remarks were corroborated by H.R.H Fon Teghenicha of Zang Tabi village, doubling as Meta clan head who poured royal blessings on the minister, wishing she deligently executes the task assigned her by the Head of State to a successful end.

Justice Mbah Acha Rose will then later mount the rostrum to address the hundreds of persons that had come to witness and partake in her homecoming visit of thanks. She used the opportunity to send a strong message to her political rivalries of opposition parties that they should be shaky by now after holding the false notion that the CPDM isn't in existence in Momo Division. "They can never beat us again. That time has passed because we are now forward ever, backward never" said the minister.

The apex of her address was when she announced that the government has awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of the road Bamenda - Mbengwi - Batibo, Njikwa and Ngie, news that was recieved by all with a thunderous round of applause. At the end, she was presented a white horse to take along to president Paul Biya and offer to him as gift from the youth wing of the ruling party in Momo Division.

This was followed by award of cash prizes, press interview and visitation to traditional dance groups with financial support. At the end of activities on the event ground, the minister then led a public march to the Mbengwi council where a working session was held with all party officials and militants. As the session went on inside, outside the town hall, Mbororo horse riders engaged the audience in a spectacular horse display. The visit ended with refreshment at the prestigious Abi Fall Resort, Mbengwi.
